The Open Data Handbook's definition describes the open data in the following statement:

"Open data is data that can be freely used, re-used and redistributed by anyone - subject only, at most, to the requirement to attribute and sharealike."

  • Plain text
  • ZIP
  • MS Powerpoint
  • MS Word   
  • Moving images: MPEG, AVI, Quicktime   
  • Still images: TIFF, JPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP
